Stanley Cup used in baptism
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PITEA, Sweden - Tomas Holmstrom had his day with the Stanley Cup on Friday, and he let his cousin use it as a baptismal font for a christening.

Holmstrom suggested the idea to his cousin, Robert Sundstrom, who baptized his seven-week-old daughter Alva Felicia during a private ceremony outside Holmstrom's hometown of Pitea in northern Sweden.

Dwarf jumping out of suitcase?

Dwarf comedy stunt shocks Swedish airport staff
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Swedish airport staff were not amused when a team from a TV comedy show tried to check in a suitcase with a dwarf inside.

Employees at Bromma airport called police when the dwarf hopped out of the suitcase at the check-in counter. Police soon found that it was a stunt being filmed by a hidden camera for a program on private TV network Kanal 5.

Police spokesman Mats Eriksson says airport staff decided against filing charges even though they were "shocked and humiliated" by yesterday's stunt.

Kanal 5 spokesman Dan Panas told Swedish news agency TT that the show was meant to be "provocative and entertaining."

He said the stunt was not meant to make fun of little people, but to make entertainment out of "extreme situations."

Google Maps adds walking directions - Via LifeHacker

"Google Maps wants to help you get where you're going on foot with a new option to switch your step-by-step driving directions to walking directions. The main difference between walking and driving directions appears to be time estimates, with Google estimating your walking pace at about 19 minutes per mile. The walking directions appear to deviate from driving directions at times, though from trying it in my neighborhood I can't pinpoint why it's changing for the walking route. The other main difference is the ominous warning that I should "use caution when walking in unfamiliar areas." Thanks for the dose of fear, Google. (I guess the same doesn't apply to driving?) We'd heard some users were seeing walking directions rolled out a few weeks ago, but it looks like Google has recently unveiled the feature to all users."

OGOPOGO Sighting!

"KELOWNA, B.C. - Don't tell Robyn Holman that the mythical lake monster called the Ogopogo doesn't exist.

Because Holman says the elusive beast made an appearance as she and a friend were travelling along the highway near Peachland, B.C., on Sunday afternoon. Holman says she noticed a wave in the water on Okanagan Lake and couldn't believe her eyes when she turned to look.

Holman says she took a picture and is now waiting to get the photo developed. Whether it turns out or not, the Kelowna, B.C., woman is now convinced that the legendary Ogopogo does exist.

The Ogopogo legend has been in existence for as long as settlers have been in B.C.

The first recorded sighting was in 1872, by Mrs. John Allison, and sightings have been recorded regularly ever since, although there is no solid evidence that the creature exists.

First Nations legends call the beast the N'ha-a-itk, or lake demon, according to local lore.

Similar to the monster of Loch Ness in Scotland, the Ogopogo is purportedly a serpent-like creature, somewhere between six and 15 metres long, with a horse-shaped head and a dark blue or brown body. "

Mass Damper Action.. During the sichuan earthquake

Wow.. You should never see that mass move that much.. Probably saved their lives. This is truly amazing.

"Phuaalvin happened to be visiting the Taipei 101 on May 12, when the Great Sichuan Earthquake occurred. It must have been terrifying to see that damper moving like that; according to Wikipedia, the damper weighs 660 metric tons, and is suspended from the 92nd to the 88th floor. A tuned mass damper is designed to sway and offset movement in the building."

"

A man has been arrested after allegedly fishing some bottles out of an Abbotsford, B.C., liquor store.

Police were called to a Liquor Barn just before 4 a.m. Monday by a security guard who spotted what he thought was a stick poking out of the ceiling tiles.

The stick had a wire attached, allowing somebody in the ceiling to fish for bottles on the floor below.
