Being in a relationship is not easy, more than half of all first marriages fail in this country. That statistic doesn't improve if you spend most of your time reading your favorite website and not tending to the needs of your family. Instead of asking me to help fix your relationship maybe you should try playing with your kids, talking to your wife, and not staring at a computer screen all day. You should realize that the help link doesn't provide help with your life. It's mostly for getting passwords and stuff. Below you'll find a collection of people that should have reached out to Dr. Phil and not Dr. Sam.

It seems to me that the simple fix for this guy is to make a new account and get the guts to tell his wife to stop calling work.

"Is it possible to take all of my account information and insert it into a new account? I ask because my wife has started to check on me through Slashdot while I'm at work. She doesn't think I am working if I post during the day. It has reached the point where she will call work if she sees that I have posted. My boss doesn't like it and I can't get her to stop. I'd hate to have to get my karma back up to where it is now or have my posts (which are very good mostly) not associated with a new account. I know I could just start posting anonymous coward but I have a problem with having what I write linked to the word coward. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance."

I have no direct proof but she doesn't talk to me when I get home like she used to, she doesn't seem interested in what I have to say or planning trips. Worst of all she gets upset at me when I try to touch her. I know she is very attracted to geek types (I can be a bit of a nerd) and she shuts off the screen when I come in. I thought at first she was talking to someone on a singles site or was looking at something inappropriate but when I made her show me one night it was Slashdot. I asked why she didn't want me to know she was looking at Slashdot and her excuse was ridiculous. I assume she's been talking to someone on your site and It would be a great help if you could let me know how to find out what she has been doing. I would be willing to get a subscription if you could help."

I think the obvious solution is that he should leave his wife and marry the first guy. That way there wouldn't be any question as to why anyone was reading Slashdot. They could live the rest of their lives commenting together. It's kind of romantic. Finally, we have a guy who should shut off his machine and play with his damn kids before they come home wearing black mascara and sporting a new face tattoo. His wife is right. They are a lot more fun when they are not telling you how you ruined their lives.

I'm not sure if you have children but in case you don't let me tell you how hard it is to get anything done in your free-time that doesn't involve yelling at them and putting them in timeout. My wife is always complaining that the kids just want to play with me and that I should be grateful, when they get older they may want nothing to do with us. It would be awesome if I could plop them down in front of a computer next to me and look at kids stuff on Slashdot. That way we would be doing something together. Just a thought. I love the site but would really love it if I could use it to spend time with the kids."

5,000 condoms stolen in Mexico

MEXICO CITY - Missing in Mexico: 5,000 condoms, sound equipment and a motor used to inflate a giant prophylactic, all stolen from a "condom-mobile" used to promote HIV/AIDS awareness.

The coordinator of an HIV/AIDS awareness tour, Polo Gomez, said the truck was boosted Sunday from its parking spot in front of a friend's house in Mexico City.

It was recovered Wednesday in a shopping mall parking lot in a northern suburb - minus the condoms and the equipment. Gomez said the thieves left some 800 HIV tests and a seven-metre inflatable prophylactic, which were also in the vehicle.

The truck wasn't hard to locate. It features painted images of a peeled banana, the exposed part shaped like a condom, and a shirtless man saying: "I protect myself. Do you?"

After the theft received widespread media coverage, residents phoned police with the vehicle's whereabouts, Gomez said.

The Condomovil program has toured Mexico since 1998 promoting safe sex practices while distributing 1.2 million condoms to more than 700,000 people, Gomez said. The inflatable condom was used to draw attention from passers-by.

The group bought the truck with a grant from Mexico's federal Health Department. The department also donated the 5,000 condoms that were stolen.

The United Nations AIDS program says there are some 200,000 people living with HIV in Mexico.

What a show: Cigarette sets off fireworks in car

"
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. - A Rhode Island man faces charges after the cigarette he was smoking inside a car apparently ignited fireworks.

Police arrested the 28-year-old Sunday after an officer found a sedan smoking in the middle of the street. Firefighters were called to extinguish the blaze. No one was injured. The man told police he was smoking a cigarette in the car when fireworks near his feet ignited. Witnesses told police they saw a passenger tossing fireworks out shortly before police arrived.

The man is charged with the use or possession of fireworks under $500.

2 different bandits rob same bank

LA MESA, Calif. - Times have been tough for banks everywhere, but a San Diego-area Wells Fargo branch had an especially difficult day this week.

The branch in La Mesa, Calif., was robbed twice on Monday - by two different people.

The robbers - dubbed "the Hard Hat Bandit" and "the Chatty Bandit" by the FBI - struck the branch about three hours apart.

FBI spokeswoman April Langwell says "the Chatty Bandit" walked in to the branch about 3 p.m., showed a pistol and demanded cash.

Less than three hours later "the Hard Hat Bandit" walked in and presented a note demanding money.

The FBI believes "the Chatty Bandit" has held up nine banks since March and "the Hard Hat Bandit" has struck three times this week.

Neither has been arrested.

New WII coming - via 2011?

"
The Nintendo Wii is still insanely popular as we approach its two year anniversary, but that doesn't mean Nintendo is sitting on its laurels. No, they're thinking about the future and planning on the Wii's successor already.

The upcoming console, tentatively referred to as the "Wii HD," is said to be based on entirely new hardware that will pump out HD visuals, contain expanded storage and run using digitally distributed content rather than physical discs, which is something widely rumored for all of the next-gen consoles. It's said to be on the slate for 2011, which sounds about right to us. But hey, let's not get too excited: the Wii still has some shelf life to it yet.

Big plans, small car: Malaysia robbers leave loot
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Two armed robbers hijacked a security van with $1.3 million inside but were forced to abandon more than half the cash because their small getaway car could not carry it all, Malaysian police said Tuesday.

The robbers and their compact getaway car were still at large with $524,000 following Monday's heist near Kuala Lumpur, said district police chief Shakaruddin Che Mood.

The robbers stole a small car then held up guards in the security van at a shopping mall. One robber drove the van away and the other followed in the car, Shakaruddin said.

The van was recovered nearby with nine bags containing 2.7 million ringgit $786,000 inside - evidently because they did not fit in the compact car, the police chief said.

"The bags are quite big. I consider them quite stupid. Their planning was very shortsighted," Shakaruddin said.

The five security guards in the van have been detained for questioning. Police suspect the robbery may have been an inside job, Shakaruddin said.

"This thing was done in an easy manner," he said.

Multi-Touch Remote Coming!

"
Panasonic is looking to reinvent the remote control with its EZ Touch Remote prototype that it is showing off here at CEATEC. Rather than rely on a touch-screen interface that forces one to look down at a remote (and away from the object of one's entertainment), the concept puts the visual feedback where it belongs: on the screen. The remote can sense left- or right-handed users and adjust the interface appropriately, moving important triggers around based on where one's thumb may (or may not) be. Dual touch pads allow for multitouch data entry and zoom manipulation, while gestures allow for quick scrolls, making this one of the most intuitive and drool-worthy remote controls we've seen in a while, or ever. We're so into it that we've provided a full gallery and three videos after the break.

Trust in your GPS?

This is a brutal story, poor dude. It is not reasonable to follow your GPS onto train tracks!

We've seen some pretty extreme cases of excessive faith in GPS, but this may well be the first instance of the ill-advised practice nearly exactly repeating itself. As you may recall, earlier this year a Bedford Hills, New York man trusted his GPS so much that he apparently thought it was perfectly reasonable to follow the directions directly onto a set of train tracks. That didn't exactly work out so well, for his car or the oncoming train. Now, as The Journal News reports, another man followed his GPS onto the very same set of tracks last night and, while he did get out in time to make a surely embarrasing 911 call, that apparently wasn't enough to prevent a commuter train from slamming into the car a few minutes later, causing an hour and a half delay but, thankfully, no injuries. Maybe it's time for some signs?

Celebrate halloween early?

A Cincinnati woman went out and did it up right by celebrating Halloween early this year.

Police say 32 year old Michelle Allen was chasing children in the 3100 block of Wilbraham, while wearing the cow costume early Monday evening. Allen also reported urinated on a neighbor's front porch. An officer told Allen to go home and stay there for the remainder of the evening. Police were later called to North Verity Avenue, where Allen was allegedly blocking traffic. The arresting officer says Allen smelled of alcohol, slurred her speech, and was belligerent. She also alleged cussed at the officer.

Website, phone lines for do-not-call list overwhelmed
Last Updated: Tuesday, September 30, 2008 | 10:31 AM ET Comments99Recommend100
CBC News

So many people are trying to register their phone numbers on the federal do-not-call list, the website has crashed and the phone lines have a constant busy tone.

Commenters to CBCNews.ca expressed frustration at not being able to get through, but not all of them were surprised at the breakdown.

"It appears the do-not-call registry site was so popular it brought down their server. I am getting … page cannot be displayed errors," wrote Alienc, of Riverview, N.B.

"Great idea but [too] bad the DNC registry website is unavailable.…Typical," wrote VACMAN, of Nova Scotia.

The popularity of the list was not unexpected. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has projected that of Canada's 27 million residential phone lines, which include cellphone numbers, 16 million would be on the do-not-call list within two years.

However, it's possible the CRTC didn't expect millions to try to join the list in the first week. The CRTC confirmed the website went live at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, and about 200,000 people were able to register before it crashed eight or nine hours later.
