SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A man is in a northern New Mexico jail, accused of driving drunk and leading police on a chase that finally ended with him running over himself.
Roy Travis Aguilar, 21, was treated for minor injuries at a Santa Fe hospital and booked into the Sandoval County detention center on charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated, fleeing a police officer, careless driving and two other outstanding traffic warrants.
A tip on a police hot line Sunday afternoon reported a possible drunken driver on a highway.
State Police Officer Grace Romero spotted Aguilar’s pickup truck swerving across both lanes of the highway, driving slowly and then fast. He refused to stop.
After narrowly missing other vehicles, police said Aguilar drove through a ditch and a barbed-wire fence before stopping. He tried to put the truck into park, but it ended up in reverse.
Police said Aguilar fell from his open door and both of his legs were run over by the front driver’s side tire.

Zookeepers mistakenly set up female polar bears

TOKYO - Japanese zookeepers have wondered for a while why two polar bears that they had hoped would mate have shown little interest in each other.
The answer came this month when the zoo discovered both the bears were female.
Tsuyoshi, a four-year-old polar bear, and 11-year-old Kurumi have been living in the same enclosure at the Kushiro Municipal Zoo in Hokkaido in northern Japan since June.
The zoo said Wednesday it thought Tsuyoshi was male because of the bear's appearance. Male polar bears are generally significantly larger than females.
Experts say when polar bears are young, it is difficult to determine their sex because their long hair covers their reproductive organs. Tsuyoshi was determined to be male at three months old.
But earlier this month, the zoo put Tsuyoshi under an anesthetic and learned he was a she.

You can listen directly from the web site, download the track as an MP3, subscribe via RSS, or set iTunes to grab the track as a podcast. The tracks use a combination of neural linguistic programming, binaural beats, and white noise generation layered into the ambient sounds.
Fair warning: the tracks include a very deep Donald LaFontaine'esque male voice that speaks at the beginning and end of the tracks urging you to relax and then gently awake. While I found the voice to be initially disconcerting— the site made absolutely no mention of the fact that a minute or so into my listening experience a dude would start talking to me— it was helpful to have a human voice appear at the end of the track to stimulate wakefulness. Without it I could have easily slept right through the fading cricket chirps.
