Windows 7 - The old girlfriend
http://tech.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1414209&cid=29835259
I get the impression that the Windows 7 launch is a lot like seeing an old girlfriend suddenly show up on your doorstep wanting to get back together. She's had some work done, apparently: stomach stapling to take off some of the weight, breast augmentation, and a radical nosejob to make her look as much like your current girlfriend as medical science will allow.
She's pretty, of course, almost too pretty. She still wears far too much makeup and carries that desperate look in her eyes. The fragrant haze around her is the perfume she overuses to mask the scent of failure.
But standing there in that low-cut top, you'd almost forget for a moment what a psycho she was- how she used to shut down in the middle of a date and forget everything you were talking about and how she was only happy when you were buying her things. You'd almost forget about carrying around her legacy baggage or those nights when, for seemingly no reason at all, she would simply stop speaking to you and when you asked what was wrong she'd just spit a string of hex code at you and expect you to figure it out.
You complained about her for years before finally deciding to get rid of her, and here she is again. Though, somehow she seems like a completely different person now.
"I'm up here," she says when she catches you staring at her chest.
Tempted though you may be, you know that over time she'll get bored and slow down on you just like she always does. And then you'll be right back where you started: trapped. She keeps you by convincing you that you don't have a choice. You're just not smart enough for one option or rich enough to afford the other.
"But I'm different now," she says, batting her eyes innocently. "I've changed."
Indeed she has. Apparently, she's really into Cabala now or something like that. It's helped her discover loads of untapped potential in herself. But it also means that you'll have to buy all new furniture to fit with her understanding of feng shui. That's not the only change she has in store for you. The minute you let her move in, she'll have a new alarm system put in that succeeds only in preventing your friends from coming over on poker night.
She doesn't love you, but she doesn't hate you, either. The truth is that she couldn't care less one way or the other. She's here because she doesn't want to be alone. Like all human beings, especially those well past their prime, she wants to feel wanted and, after a string of lost jobs and bad investments, she needs a place to stay.
But all in all, she's OK. She's a seven. She'll do, I guess.

DMC Memories ...
In my quest to find a review on the 2009 Canadian DMC's, i found this old article with a mention of me. LOL. Thought i would share.
"Equally impressive was third-place finisher MSA, who proved the most experimental of the challengers, ending his set by cutting between one record's funky drum kick and the white noise emanating from another's runout groove. This tactic offered welcome evidence that the form's limits may not yet have been reached."

Crazy story. a friend of mine knows these people.
From the Vancouver Sun
VANCOUVER - For one lucky five year-old, a seal that dares jump onto a dock and pull her underwater is more than bold.
He's just plain rude.
Minutes after a seal pulled Caleigh Cunning, 5, into the water at West Vancouver's Thunderbird Marina yesterday evening, the girl had a few questions for her father.
"She said, 'Daddy, why did the seal drag me in the water?'" said her father, Mike Cunning.
"I said, 'I think the seal wanted you to go for a swim.'
"She said, 'well, the seal wasn't very nice.'"
At about 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, Cunning, Caleigh and some friends were standing on the dock, cleaning the fish they had caught after a short trip off Thunderbird marina.
Cunning said he had turned from his daughter for a moment when he heard a splash.
"I looked over and couldn't see my daughter anywhere."
He said she popped up about two metres away, where she had been dragged by the seal into the water.
"I said 'Caleigh, swim to me, swim to me Caleigh!'"
Cunning said his friend, who had seen the incident, told him the seal had jumped four feet out of the water and Caleigh by the arm and pulled her into the water.
"It just happened so quickly. It was instantaneous."

Cryogenically frozen bodies
Morbid. I was reading my "Uncle John's bathroom reader" and had this crazy story about a baseball player that was cryogenically frozen.
They basically drain the blood from your corpse and then put you in a body bag, then bring you to their lab.. Decapitate your head from your body and put everything into a vat with special cooling agents.
Ah most excellent.
Don't think it's real.

Weird Al - Album review from Amazon.com
CD Review
152 of 159 people found the following review helpful:
4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but don't play this album to dolphins!, August 28, 2009
By Al killed my dolphins - See all my reviews
As a amateur marine biologist, I try to share our human experience with our sea-faring mammals.
So, I got this album and decided to play it over the aquarium's underwater speakers. Bad idea.
The dolphins initially were indifferent about 'Whatever you like', having not much exposure to today's hip-hop trends.
They really enjoyed 'Craigslist', with that classic 70s' sound meshed with modern weirdness that Jim Morrison couldn't even hallucinate if he had tried. If he had succeeded, probably would have sworn off drugs and be alive today performing Sinatra covers in Vegas.
'Skipper Dan' is a bit of a downer, since the situation hit home with my job here at the World Of Sea..
(not Seaworld, that's much better and doesn't smell as much like old fish)
Everybody, including the dolphins, really loved the CNR for its compelling riffs and the shocking revelation that Chuck Norris had ripped off the legend of veteran Tonight Show guest and comedian Charles Nelson Reiley. They quite enjoyed it, actually.
But then 'Ringtone' started playing.. not bad, I was listening, kinda cute in an way,
but I hadn't noticed that the dolphins had stopped frolicing..
They were swimming in circles in the tank, and it looked like they were attempting to block their ears with their flippers. (do they have ears? they didn't tell me anything at the employee orientation).
Apparently the strange frequency effects in the song were resonant with their echolocation, and they started ramming the speaker grilles, attempting to stop it. They rammed the wall several times, then leapt out of the water into the stands, and then imploded. So now I've got to clean all this imploded dolphin guts off of the arena before the next show.
Thanks a lot, Al.
Update:
Since I published this review, a busload of ASPCA advocates showed up at World of Sea. They wanted to investigate the
imploded dolphins. Where were they when the Manatee was holding that girl scout troop hostage?
I may have embellished the story a bit. The dolphins were just disoriented, and threw up their lunch.
I still had to clean it up, though.
Calm down, people! We'll be lucky if we can open for business tomorrow, the code violations are piling up.
Use your energies that you wrought toward my situation, and bother the Navy, they do much worse than Al, what with their low frequency sonar..
Although the whale that beached itself nearby, as a result of their testing, is quite a popular attraction now.
Good thing it survived the tow tr... oh, you'll call in the ASPCA again if I said more.
Don't forget to stop by the souvenir stand and pick up a bottle of genuine dolphin-ingested chum. Hey, I gotta make a living, too!
Suffice it to say I enjoyed 4/5 of the album, and the dolphins have recovered swimmingly.
Stop picketing the place already!
You're making a mess and I'll have to clean that up as well.

Grouse Grind 13 times in one day.
WTF? I could maybe do it twice in one day. I can't imagine 13 times and 13000 calories burned. Dude, you're a freak.
A new record has been set for the most times anyone has climbed North Vancouver's gruelling Grouse Grind trail in a single day.
Around 11 p.m. PT Monday night, Vancouver realtor Sebastian Albrecht reached the top of the rocky trail for the 13th time since he started at 7 a.m.
After completing the final climb in the dark, a weary Albrecht told CBC News it had been a challenging day.
"Once I got past 10 it was easier psychologically because I knew I was really close to my goal. Physically, it was a lot more difficult because my body was starting to give out. And 12 and 13 were painful," he said.
The 2.9-kilometre trail runs from the Grouse Mountain gondola base station in North Vancouver up to the ski lodge perched on the edge of the mountain overlooking all of Metro Vancouver.

Apple Brick...
"Ryan went to Best Buy to buy a MacBook Pro. And he did. Or so he thought. Then he brought it home and realized it was a brick. A real brick! Still, it's a step up from rocks.
When I got home I opened the box and found a paving stone packed with bubble wrap, instead of the Macbook Pro. I returned to the store and the manager, "Keith", was not too willing to help me out. He kept falling back on the line "Apple seals the boxes, not us. Take it up with Apple."
I have sent an email to Best Buy corporate and have contacted my credit card company. Unfortunately, they can't do anything until the charge posts. So right now, I paid $2164.89 for a very nice red brick.
